Congratulations to one of our own, Ali Philmon, State Champion 2005
Ali Philmon wins Division 2 State Championship for East Lansing High School.
Ali
came from Sudan, Africa and attended North Elementary School as a
child. In 1999, when I was assistant principal at North
Elementary, Ali came to my attention when I saw him juggling a
soccer ball by himself. I was instantly impressed with his natural
ability with a soccer ball and we started to play
"soccer tennis" during lunchtime. Soon, crowds of children began to
gather around our impromptu sessions and from there, Ali went into the
Lansing Soccer Club team in the 12 and Under division of the Lansing
Parks & Recreation League.
With the support of very special people, Ali
was guided
towards the right direction. We celebrate his success as a student
and as a soccer player. As a freshman he played in the varsity team at
East Lansing High School and today became state champ. Great job to Ali
and for all the supporting people who made this possible. This is what
LSC is about.
